Thank you for visiting our website. Whether you are searching for hope, the simple assurance that there is something more, or a church home, you are not alone. We come from different places and backgrounds but want to live our lives for the Glory of God. We are casual, so dress to be comfortable, and come meet God right where you are.
We hope we can get to know each other and experience the joy and love of Jesus right here together. Please let us know how we can meet your needs and serve you. We are the hands and feet of Jesus, and we exist to love. We are better together.
The Reverend Joseph W. Casteel was born and raised in Cumberland, Maryland. The son of a minister, Joe was active in the church from a very young child. After graduating from Allegany High School, he enrolled as a Pre-Med student at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia. He intended to pursue a degree in Optometry. In the second year of study, Joe realized his uncertainty about the course of study in which he was enrolled. He left school and went to work with The Prudential Insurance Company. His fast-paced success in sales moved him into management within several years. Within four years, he decided to open his own business as an independent agent. From his early teens, Joe sensed a call to pursue ministry but resisted it. “I just wanted to be a faithful disciple and not be tied to the church vocationally.”
A short while after he opened and operated his own business, he acknowledged and followed the call to ministry. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Joe completed his Master of Divinity Degree from Duke University. He has completed the American Association of Pastoral Counselors Training Program in Charlotte, North Carolina. His post-graduate work has been in Pastoral Counseling and Psychotherapy. He is also a graduate of the Robert H. Schuller Institute for Successful Church Leadership. In February 2020, he became a certified Transitional/Intentional Interim Ministry Specialist in The United Methodist Church.
Joe is an ordained Elder in the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church and has served churches in Grantsville, Maryland, Wilmington, Raleigh, Fayetteville, Roxboro, Robbins, Siler City, Hampstead, and Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He came to Roanoke Rapids in 2018. He has been an active leader in the District and Conference Ministries and Missions.
He is married to the Reverend Doctor Kimberly Carlson, Lead Pastor of Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. The father of four children, Joe and Kim enjoy spending time with their families and especially their grandchildren. He loves to travel, enjoys woodworking loves great food. Other than God and family, his two great loves are seafood and Duke Men’s Basketball.
